Excursion to Pisco

Today the team took a three-hour drive south to Pisco. Thankfully, we had a nice big comfortable two-story tour bus for the trip! The excursion afforded us an excellent opportunity to view the rugged scenery along the Peruvian coast. The barren hills and desert landscapes bore testimony to the small amount of rainfall this area gets every year.

During our first stop at a large school we were able to meet and encourage a group of Peruvian young ladies. David shared about the importance of making wise choices using the illustration of a block tower. One wrong choice made poor Derek and the entire tower on which he was standing to come crashing down. :) Many received Christ as their personal Savior as a result of our visit.

Pisco is still recovering from a major earthquake that hit in August of 2007. We received a tour of a hospital that played a major part in the recovery efforts. Col. Tanner and the ALERT team continued plans for giving training that would help them to be more effective in disaster preparedness.

Our team made quite a spectacle trying to get everyone lined up for a group picture in the Pisco town square. But afterwards we got to spontaneously sing “Cuan Grand es El” (“How Great Thou Art”) to the gathered crowd.

The day concluded with a delicious dinner at a secluded ranch and an exciting, last-minute shopping excursion in downtown Lima. Tomorrow we head home!

Please pray for God’s wisdom and blessing on the many initiatives that have begun as a result of this trip!

Seminario de Pastores

David is 18. He had concluded that Christianity just didn´t make sense. He had given up on God and left church. However, his mom persuaded him to attend our service on Sunday night. When he heard testimony after testimony of God´s power at work in the lives of the young people on our team, his whole perspective changed. He came up to me after the service and asked some deep questions. I gave him some Scriptures to think about and he meditated on them all day Monday and Tuesday. His pastor invited him and his older sister to attend our one-day Pastor´s seminar today. “I now realize that God´s ways are much higher than my ways,” he passionately testified to our entire team this evening, “and from now on I am going to submit my mind to the authority of God´s Word.” His sister was almost in tears as she said, “I can´t believe this is actually happening!”

Ricardo glumly walked into the Pastor´s seminar today with his mother. The Lord prompted me to go up and give him a greeting. He wasn´t very responsive to my broken Spanish at first but his eyes finally lit up when we started talking about photography. Soon several of our team photographers were carrying on a good conversation. A little while later Mario shared the Gospel message with him and he prayed to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. He broke into a smile and said: “Until now I had always wondered why Jesus died on the cross!”

All around us we are seeing darkened lives suddenly filled with light and hope! Testimonies like these have been happening all around us ever since we stepped foot in Peru. Praise the Lord! Approximately 300 pastors attended the seminar today and responded enthusiastically to the truths that were shared. Several pastors had traveled for 24 hours to attend. One pastor had come from 40 hours away! Each one was blessed and encouraged. Thank you for praying!

Why I Like John Raese

  • “John is a very strong pro-life conservative.  He believes deeply in the sanctity of life.”
  • “The core of the Raese for Senate campaign is completely focused on the single fact that our government must immediately be disciplined so that it works for us – the citizens – not the other way around. Any government, which ceases to reflect the will of its citizens, must be challenged and then replaced.”
