A Northwoods Winter

David Waller and I enjoyed spending the month of January at the beautiful Northwoods Conference Center in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The Jensen family was very hospitable during our stay. With Mrs. Jensen’s fine cooking and Mr. Jensen’s entertaining stories, we spent many enjoyable evenings together.
Our fun adventures included the opportunity to go cross country skiing, a first for me. David, having practically grown up on skis in the great state of Wisconsin, was a very patient instructor.
Another new experience was a snowmobile ride with Mr. Jensen. Zipping through miles of untouched snow along forest trails, across frozen lakes, and through hills and valleys at high speeds was an experience to be remembered!
What fun! You had told us about your excursions but there’s nothing like a picture. That really looks like it was a blast!
My only question is, how are the snowmobiles propelled forward? Jonathan would also like to know you steer them.
We are grateful to the Jensen family for helping to make your month in the North Woods so memorable.

Wow, Robert that looks so exiting driving those snowmobiles and going skiing! Now don’t have too much fun up there.
Snow, snow, snow! What fun you can have in it! Cross country skiing is such a blast. What I liked about it was the pace you go at still allows you to interact with one another and really take in the beauties around you.

It is also a great way to get comfortable on skis before you try down hill skiing!
Hey y’all! Thanks for the comments. For those of you who were wondering, snowmobiles are propelled forward by a rotating track in the back (like you might see on a tank). Steering is done by the two skis on the front. It’s amazing how effectively they can cut through snow, even if it is fresh. They can go pretty fast, too, especially on packed surfaces. David reached 70mph!
